Principal's Corner

Welcome to Mountain Vista K-8 School! We are very excited that you are joining us for the 2023-2024 school year. We believe that your child’s safety matters and their education matters because your child matters! Each year, we make modifications to continue to grow to be the best fit for our students and community. We look forward to growing together this year and are honored that you choose Mountain Vista for your child.

To provide the best education-

We have welcomed two new teachers to the Mountain Vista Family; Matthew Peru will be teaching sixth grade and Emily Smith will be join our special education team. In February of 2023, Melinda Hebbel joined Mountain Vista as our school counselor. Melinda has been a wonderful addition and we look forward to welcoming her back this school year.

We look forward to welcoming our students to our new library. This will provide students a space to read, gather and receive lessons to meet individual needs. Our reading team and several volunteers will utilize this space for enrichment and intervention.

To provide a safe campus-

We will continue to have a front gate greeter as well as our bus greeter. We will have a morning crossing guard on duty from 7:35-7:50 AM and two crossing guards at the end of the school day from 2:10-2:15 PM.

We will still require all visitors to check-in at the front office. We will also require visitors to bring an ID when checking in. The renovation of the front office has been a long process, we are pleased to announce that it will be complete before the first day of school! The entrance to our campus will be secure and all visitors will need to be buzzed-in to access the campus.

To promote a positive environment-

We are starting the year off strong with our PBIS system by utilizing PBIS Rewards. This is an app that staff, students, and families are able to use to encourage positive behavior, monitor behavior issues, and create more communication between teachers and families.

We will continue to have the PBIS store for students in grades K-8. Students will be able to purchase items through their PBIS Rewards App.

As we continue to progress, my hope is that you continue to choose Mountain Vista to provide a safe and effective school environment to deliver the best education for your child. Working with staff, students, parents, and community members is of great importance to me and if you need to contact me for any reason, please do not hesitate.
