Principal's Corner

Welcome to Mountain Vista K-8 School! We are very excited that you are joining us for the 2022-2023 school year. Every school year, families choose where they are going to send their kids to receive their education. They may choose a school because it is in their district, because they have close ties to the community, or because it’s the best fit for their child. For whatever reason, you chose Mountain Vista and we are thankful that you did! We believe that it is important to provide a safe, conducive learning environment for all students to receive a quality education. To provide that environment, we must continue to grow as a Mountain Vista community.

To provide the best education-

We have welcomed two new teachers to the Mountain Vista Family and look forward to several teachers working in different grade levels. Kelly Suttle was a substitute for us last year and will now join us full time in kindergarten with Janice Vigil. We are welcoming Rosalie Sanchez and Chantel Sloan to second grade. Alissa Maynard has been part of our team as a paraprofessional and will now join us in third grade along with Darlene Cavanaugh. Our special education team is growing as we welcome Monique Lopez and Katrina Telles to work alongside Tori Johnson and Nancy Ritchie.

As the construction in the library continues, our paraprofessionals will be in classrooms to assist students and provide additional help where most needed.

We are happy to announce that we have adopted a 4th-8th grade science and social studies curriculum.

To provide a safe campus-

We will continue to have a front gate greeter as well as our bus greeter. We will have a morning crossing guard on duty from 7:35-8:00 AM and two crossing guards at the end of the school day from 2:45-2:55 PM.

We will still require all visitors to check-in at the front office. We will also require visitors to bring an ID when checking in.

We will only have the front gate unlocked throughout the school day, all walk through and drive through gates must remain locked during school hours. As construction progresses, a renovation to the Mountain Vista office will take place and a check-in, buzz-in system will be installed.

To promote positive behavior-

We are starting the year off strong with our PBIS system by utilizing PBIS Rewards. This is an app that staff, students, and families are able to use to encourage positive behavior, monitor behavior issues, and create more communication between teachers and families.

We will continue to have the PBIS store for students in grades K-8. Students will be able to purchase items through their PBIS Rewards App.

As we continue to progress, my hope is that you continue to choose Mountain Vista to provide a safe and effective school environment to deliver the best education for your child. Working with staff, students, parents, and community members is of great importance to me and if you need to contact me for any reason, please do not hesitate.
