About Our District

History

The Oracle School District is one of 19 public school Districts located in Pinal County, Arizona. The Oracle Elementary School District was organized in 1905. Oracle school District is the second oldest District in Pinal County.  The District encompasses 314 square miles which include Eagle Crest Ranch, a family residential development, SaddleBrooke, and SaddleBrooke Ranch retirement communities, the unincorporated town of Oracle, and the outlying areas of Willow Springs and Falcon Valley. The Oracle School District provides a program of public instruction from preschool to grade eight with an estimated enrollment of approximately 425 students.

The District and the town of Oracle have its roots in the mining industry. The community began to grow in the late 1870’s when gold and silver were discovered and the Christmas and New Year mines were opened. In 1952 the Magma Copper Company developed its first mining production shafts kicking off the era of the San Manuel Magma Copper mine.  In its hay day the Magma copper mine employed over 1200 people and produced more than 700 million tons of copper until finally closing in 2003.   The transition from a mining town to a bedroom community consisting of retirees and commuters has been a major challenge for the District and the local economy.   The Oracle School District is steadily gaining enrollment and has a very bright future!

Our Campus

Currently, the Oracle School District operates a preschool through eighth-grade school called Mountain Vista located in the beautiful community of Oracle located just north of Tucson.   Mountain Vista has approximately 425 students and provides them many unique learning opportunities. Mountain Vista school has a very strong curriculum that emphasizes project-based learning that includes an accelerated grade five and six combination class that incorporates an overnight solar oven potluck field trip in the Catalina State Park. We have a strong relationship with the Biosphere and have an amazing science fair that takes place every December. Our students always receive the extra help they need to be successful from our full-time reading specialist and tutoring opportunities in the morning, school day, after school. We even feature tutoring in the evenings through our Connections Learning Center in the Mountain Vista Library.

The Oracle School District is small but mighty with extracurricular opportunities for its students in orchestra, sewing, a full slate of competitive athletics and even an equestrian program where kids learn the basics of horsemanship even if they don’t own their own horse! Through the community schools programs of all ages can participate in organized flag football, basketball, and soccer. The Oracle School District is an elementary school district which means that we bus high school students free of charge to their choice of either Canyon Del Oro or San Manuel high school. For the community, Mountain Vista School is host to many events ranging from providing a training ground for the Oracle Fire Department to hosting political forums and other community meetings.
